BEERS OF BELGIUM

While the biggest and grandest festival of beer drinking is held in Germany, meanwhile, its tiny neighbor country of  Belgium holds the world's most number of beers!

Belgium is not only known for its mouth- watering waffles and delectable chocolates, it is also known for its thousand brands of beers! Belgians drink an average of 88 liters of beer each year and most beers are bought or served in bottles rather on cans, and almost every style of beer has a distinct or unique style of bottle.

each variety of beer has its own distinct serving glass

Beer-making started in Belguim during the 12th century, and the first makers of beer are actually monks that lived in Trappist Monastery. The brewery is located inside the monastery and the monks play a role in its production. The beer they produced is called the Trappist beer.

Official estimates suggest that there are more than 700 kinds of beer to choose from, and now the number grew higher because most of the families in Belgium started to brew their own beer, either for commercial use or for personal consumption.

When I was in Belgium, our host gave us the opportunity to try the local beers. No, they don't brew their own beers, it's just that they have a large collection of beers in their house and it is their tradition to offer a drink to their guest. I was lucky to try ten kinds of beer, from the lowest alcohol content to the strongest brand of beer!

With so much choice, I am confused which one to try, but since the bottles were in front of me, why not try them all? hahaha. Whether you're a seasoned beer drinker or a tippling amateur, these beers will give your taste buds a treat!

I am not really a good beer drinker but as per my taste buds, these how the beers taste like.

St. Bernardus Abt-  my second favorite beer, it looks bitter because of its dark color, but it is actually sweet. it doesn't have a strong flavor due to its low alcohol content.

Chimay Grande Reserve- a little bit sweet, it has a mild taste, you can taste a fruity at the end, best paired with cheese

Bush- the strongest beer of all with its 12% alcohol content, taste bitter and thick, you will feel the effect of the alcohol on your second glass, I don't know with other drinkers but for me I felt a slight dizzy after my second glass haha.

St. Bernardus Trippel- oh I will not forget this beer because of it's unique taste, first time to taste a spicy beer which I didn't like it.

Trappist Achel- one of the varieties of Trappist beer, this is my favorite beer because of its sour and mild taste probably because of the yeast content.

Since I got so much alcohol that night, I can't even remember how the other beer tastes like, but I am pretty sure about the beers I mentioned above, and I think one beer deserves a second or third bottle haha.

Belgium is without a doubt a beer country like no other. From low alcohol to heavy, from clear blond to intensely dark, from sweet and fruity to extremely bitter or sour, everything you like about beer is definitely here!

Beer tasting is definitely the highlight of my Belgian tour and one of the best things I did during my euro trip. If ever I find myself in this country again, I know where to go first haha. Cheers!

yours truly having the opportunity to taste some of the finest beers in Belgium
