SAFETY FIRST: How To Keep Yourself Secured When Traveling

Just in a month, there were several attacks that have been reported that scared the world once again. Three weeks ago, there was an attack in Turkey's capital, Ankara and in just one week another blast has been listed in Istanbul. And just a couple of days ago two separate attacks rocked the city of Brussels Belgium that killed at least 30 people and injured around 200. With this kind of incidents, it gives a big fear to people to travel especially when security is compromised.

We don't know when these things will happen, in fact, the terrorists may strike anytime and anywhere, so make sure to be vigilant and observant and take extra caution when you are in a different country.

With such, I made my own list which I may find helpful on how to stay safe and secure when traveling.

When you are in a foreign land always have a contact info of your embassy or consulate in case something emergency happens, you know where the best place to go. In case, there is no embassy present, have at least an address of a nearest local police station which can be obtained at the hotel's concierge.

Always inform your family back home the places you are going to visit, keep them updated whenever possible. Give them the address and contact number of the hotel or the place where you are staying so that they know where to trace you once something bad happen.

Aside from your passport and some identification cards, keep a piece of paper in your bag or wallet an "in case of emergency" contact number of your family.

Make use of social media wisely to inform your friends and family where you have been so that it would be easy for them to trace you.

As much as you want to avoid crowded places, some tourist spots usually have a lot of people but make sure you can still move freely and have space where you can exit easily.

Always pay attention to the emergency exits and make sure you know where to find them.

Be mindful of your surroundings and be observant, if you find any suspicious acts stay away immediately.

Traveling is not all about having fun, sometimes when you are fascinated or overwhelmed with something, you try to forget your  own security. Be alert, always ready and stay focus  especially nowadays risk is everywhere.
